Bio

Vanni, originally known as Vanessa Wendland, is a self-taught abstract artist born in Berlin, Germany, currently based in Mallorca, Spain. From an early age, encouraged by her mother, Vanni found joy in painting and creative exploration, deeply inspired by nature. After exploring various career paths, including completing a bachelor's degree in equine science, she rekindled her passion for abstract painting seven years ago. Since then, she has devoted herself to art, experimenting with different techniques and gradually honing her skills through self-learning.

Today, Vanni has embraced her art as a full-time profession. Since 2021, she has been represented by Greenhouse Interiors in Australia. Additionally, her work is sold by Australian retailers such as MYND Interiors, Norsu Interiors, Granite Lane, and Hart Co. Vanni accepts commissions, enjoys collaborations with interior designers, and her works are part of private collections across the globe.

Artist Statement

Vanni is an intuitive abstract artist who delights in the vibrant interplay of colors and forms. Her approach to painting is a playful exploration, sometimes resembling structured patterns, other times freely flowing with spontaneous brushstrokes.

Her inspiration comes from the rich tapestry of everyday life – the dynamic hues of nature, the bold statements of fashion, the emotional depth of photography, and cherished memories of the 90s. Painting for Vanni is a journey back to the simpler, carefree days of childhood, filled with creativity and endless possibilities.

In her studio, Vanni embraces a process that is more about instinctive feeling than meticulous planning. She lets the day's mood guide her color choices, turning up her favorite music and immersing herself in the rhythm of painting. Her brushstrokes vary from deliberate to loose, each adding a unique layer to the canvas. She works intuitively, allowing the composition to evolve organically, sometimes with rapid completion, other times requiring patient layering of translucent colors to reveal the final piece.

Each artwork is a personal narrative, a visual expression of Vanni's thoughts and emotions. The process is as important as the result – it's a therapeutic release from the need for perfection, a celebration of the beauty found in quirky shapes and unexpected color combinations.

Art for Vanni is about emotional resonance. She aims to create works that evoke a sense of happiness and well-being, inviting viewers to connect with their inner child and embrace life's simple pleasures.
